Established in 2015, HORDERN CIANI LTD has already produced upwards of 25 shows all over the UK. Based in Swanage and Leatherhead, we create theatre that cares about its audience. Our shows are steeped in the cream of the UK’s talent, both in the spotlight and backstage. What’s more, our repertory seasons have gained loyal followings and exceptional reviews and our work has been instrumental in injecting new life into theatres nationwide. Producers Teresa Barlow (Composer) and Katherine Mount (Lyricist & Writer) penned their first piece together, Isle of Woman, in 2016 which went on to tour through England, Wales, and fittingly to the Isle of Man.
This was closely followed by the founding of the popular Swanage Repertory Season at the Mowlem Theatre, the Leatherhead Repertory Season at The Leatherhead Theatre, and shows at both the Wanstead Festival and the Wells Theatre Festival. They have also shown a musical in development at The Other Palace Theatre, Off West End, London.
Last year, our contribution to communities across the UK was recognised by Arts Council England, who awarded the company a project grant for the Swanage Rep Season. In 2021, the Culture Recovery Fund has awarded a further grant to develop the new musical piece with integrated British Sign Language, The Princess And The Pauper.
Theatre is a unique form of entertainment that can bring immediacy, a shared emotional journey and a mentally immersive and mindful experience for the audience. After the year that everyone has lived through, the Hordern Ciani team has not only maintained but strengthened its desire to achieve these outcomes. We believe that theatre can be fun, a moment of escape, a way to connect and bring a sense of community, and we can’t think of a time when we have all needed that more!
